Hundreds of sex offenders listed on public websites!
Many US states have public websites which display names of of criminal sex offenders.

Some background:
Child pornographers should be lonely and hunted individuals like they were in the 80's in USA. Producing child abuse images at that time was both difficult and expensive, and reproducing images was equally difficult and expensive. Purchasing and trading such images was extremely risky. Anonymous distribution and receipt was not possible and it was difficult for pedophiles to find and interact with each other. Unfortunately, technology has changed the situation.

Easy and cheap Internet distribution
Producing child abuse images has now become easy and inexpensive. The Internet allows images and digitized movies to be reproduced and disseminated to tens of thousands of individuals at the click of a button. The distribution and receipt of such images can be done almost anonymously. As a result, child pornography is readily available through Internet technology (web sites, email etc.). The technological ease, lack of expense, and anonymity in obtaining and distributing child pornography has resulted in an explosion in the availability, accessibility, and volume of child pornography.

To scare people from being involved in any activity involving child abuse and child porn all caught and sentenced people should be listed publicly as in some US states.

On the website of the US state of Alabama it is written: "August 1, 1998: In compliance with the Community Notification Act (Act 98-489), public access is now provided to information regarding the current known address of criminal sex offenders."
It is pleasant to see that on the site of the US Department of Justice, Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section there is a link to State Sex Offender - Registry Websites. What a brilliant idea. If only more countries in the world would pick up that idea. The registry even lists the county in which the offenders live if that information is available.

It does not however list what exact type of offence has been commited, so it might be rape or other sex offence which does not include children. But if you are in doubt about a person or just curious, and you live in USA, you must visit that site. Find the state and then locate your county or region.

The site of Arkansas states: "The Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) Program has been enhanced with a web-based version that allows crime victims and concerned citizens to search a website for offender information."

You can also register with VINE to get news about a particular offender and once you have registered for notification, an email or telephone call will be immediately sent in Spanish or English about any custody and/or court events that occur with the offender.
